Product Description
Cuddly baby camel wool in its purest form: plain natural camel with twisted fringes . This exquisite blanket is hand-woven from pure baby camel hair over several hours – unadulterated and completely natural. The baby camel wool comes from the Gobi Steppe of Mongolia.
Combing camels is very dangerous and extremely laborious. The undercoat is almost as soft as cashmere.
Very elegant to wear as an XXL scarf or shawl.
Weaving technique: 4-ply yarn, mechanically woven in exclusive Verena von Eschenbach wave weave design in Mongolia. The fringes are hand-twisted and knotted.

What is baby camel wool?
Most of the country's camels live in the Mongolian steppe in the south. In late spring, around May/June, camels molt.
Baby camels have their first hair change at about 1-2 years of age.
At this time, the baby camel is combed for the first time. This young wool is almost as soft as cashmere and is ideal for weaving and knitting. The nomads we work with will receive two wooden corridors donated by Verena von Eschenbach in 2023. This mobile wooden frame will help the nomads safely and securely comb their animals' flanks from the outside using special combs, a physically demanding task.
The camel is then returned to the herd and the wool is finally taken to Ulaan Baatar for washing, kading and spinning for further processing there.
