What is baby camel wool?
Most of the country's camels live in the Mongolian steppe in the south of the country. In late spring, around May/June, the camels shed their hair.
The baby camels have their first hair change at about 1-2 years of age.
At that time, the little camel is combed for the first time. This young wool is almost as soft as cashmere wool and is ideal for weaving and knitting. The nomads we work with will receive two wooden corridors donated by Verena von Eschenbach in 2023. This mobile wooden frame helps the nomads to comb their animals' flanks safely and safely from the outside using special combs - a very physically demanding job.
The camel is then returned to the herd and the wool is finally taken to Ulaan Baatar for washing, kading and spinning for further processing there.
